Among the branches of Public Law, Administrative Law, Administrative Law is of great significance and public importance. It is prescribed for study as compulsory paper in LL.B or B.L or B.G.L (both three years or five years degree) in almost all Universities in India. Earlier, it was regarded as the part and parcel of he Constitutional Law and witnessed tremendous growth and development in 20th century. In India, some branches of law remain uncodified (For example, Law of Torts, Environmental Law etc.).Similarly, certain areas/concepts of law are not clear and uncertain. (For Instance, the theory of basic structure, uncertainty in respect of state/government’s liability for the wrongs viz. Torts and branch of Contracts, committed by its servants as well still follow the sovereign – Non – sovereign dichotomy coined by the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court in 1860 in P & O Steam Navigation case in 1860 even after the decision of the Supreme Court through Sinha, C.J. in Vidyavathi’s v State of Rajasthan, (AIR 1962 SC 933). the present subject, Administrative Law is one among the uncodified branches of law.
